Video Series Idea: Cosplay Comments and Questions?

Hey Guys! So I had this idea but I need your help to make it a reality. Basically, I’m hoping to do a video series where I cosplay as different characters (the cosplays I have done so far) and answer comments and questions all while in character for the duration of the video. It would be fun and also give me a chance to interact with followers on my blog and other social media.

I need comments and questions in order to make that a reality. So, all you guys have to do from the blog is message me on this posting for any of the following characters. Just make sure to let me know WHICH character it is for. I won’t be able to make a video until I get about 10 comments for a specific character though across all social media, so please share if you want your comment responded to! You can ask multiple characters, but all ten comments for one character can’t be from the same person for varieties sake.

The Characters/Cosplays:

Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo

Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6

Mavis from Hotel Transylvania

Ashley from Until Dawn

Joy from Inside Out

Fionna from Adventure Time

Papyrus from Undertale

Undyne from Undertale

Marinette from Miraculous LadyBug

LadyBug from Miraculous LadyBug

(Note: If you tweet me these use these hashtags and mention me too if possible… #CallShaggy, #CallHoney, #CallMavis, #CallAshleyUntilDawn, #CallJoy, #CallFionna, #CallPapyrus, #CallUndyne, #CallMarinette, #CallLadyBug)

Yeah, so that’s pretty much it! Hope you guys like the idea and PLEASE share if you want your comment read. =)

Christmas Count Down: Day 24

While I was at Megacon Fan Days I ran into a lot of awesome vendors. One of my favorites was Cute Panda Co which had a number of fan art pieces from my favorite things (Gravity Falls, 5 Nights at Freddys, Over the Garden Wall, etc).

Bill Cipher Badge

Freddy Fazbear Badge

Wirt from Over the Garden Wall Pin

(Of course, I got the Wirt and Mabel Buttons ftw.)

Exacto Knife
1 Wooden Stick
Sandpaper Sheets
Red, White and Yellow Acrylic Paint
Gold Metallic Spray Paint
White Ribbon (2″)
2 Pink Jewelry Pieces (25mm or greater)
1 Dowel Cap (1″)

Nerdy Items: Finn & Jake Mugs

Recently, after purchasing all my items for a Fionna cosplay, I was thinking about the fact that I needed a new drinking cup. Deciding to go with Adventure Time, I stumbled across this awesome Jake the Dog mug. The cool thing is that they also have a Finn the Human version!

-The mug is very sturdy and obviously made of of ceramic. It’s a tad heavy if filled to the brim but that could be expected of any well made ceramic coffee cup.

-The actual cup is huge and can fit a lot of liquid. Definitely is the 18 oz size.

-It is both microwave and dishwasher safe! Love, love that!

-The handle is perfect and comfortable in my hands when I lift it.

-The paint or coloration is good quality and is nice and smooth to the touch.

-Plus it’s just overall cool~

No Sew Cosplay: Fionna from Adventure Time

Cake the Cat and Fionna the Human, the fun will never end!

Hat: It’s actually so simple to get Fionna’s hat that even sellers on Amazon have them. There are a few different sellers, including this one  which has the best reviews. This one the one I ended up ordering, however. If you get this one, you will have to go in and cut out the hair, however, as it comes attached, if you want to have a better looking blond wig. Or you can simply buy one on Etsy, but it will probably cost you more.

Shirt: Fionna wears her shirt pretty close to her body, showing off the curves in her body. This is in stark contrast to Finn, who wears his shirt so baggy that he has a rectangular shape to his form. I’d opt to get a shirt like this one that is more form fitting. It seems fair to think Fionna would wear material that was also easy to move in, since she is always off on Adventures like her male counterpart.

Backpack: If you have done a Finn cosplay, or read my previous article on Finn, then you would know that I prefer this backpack which could easily be stuffed to the max to give it that really round look. Of course, being practical, you will probably need things at the convention or a storage for merch so a backpack will really come in handy. Of course, give yourself SOME room to take home all those lovely souvenirs.

Finn the Human Adventure Time Backpack

Skirt: I’ve actually purchased this skirt before for a Gwen Stacy outfit (Amazing Spider-Man version). It’s a very good quality skirt and fits pretty well. It’s also pretty form fitting, which I think would work well for this cosplay. Also, since the quality is good, you could easily wear it again!

Socks: It’s pretty easy to find some tube socks that are white with light blue lines. I found these pretty easily actually.

Shoes: Mary Jane shoes go with practically everything and anything outfit wise. So the good thing is, that if you turn around and invest in some good shoes for this, you could easily reuse them in a variety of different ways. You can often get some pretty good deals on shoes though via Ebay or going to your local thrift store. For instance, these are like $20! Whatever you end up doing, I would go with Mary Janes that look a tad athletic or sleek in style, as that would fit with Fionna’s personality better and be something she would be likely to pick out.

Makeup/Wig: It’s definitely possible to get away with a lot in this cosplay. If you already have blond hair, well, all you have to do is stick your bangs out of your hat and you’re pretty much good to go! If you don’t already have blond hair, any length blond wig will pretty much do. If you really want to be exact, for when you take off the hat, then you want to go with a long blond wig like this one in autumn gold.

As for the makeup: STAY TUNED! I actually purchased ALL of the merchandise besides the shoes for an upcoming video I will be adding to my Youtube Channel. If you haven’t already done so, please follow my channel over on Youtube and subscribe for instant notifications! I plan on also make her sword so I will be uploading a video most likely on how I did it.

Yep, I’m going to make you wait for that video for a week or so until all the items come in!

No Sew Cosplay: Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time

Ruling the Candy Kingdom is a big responsibility and jazz but it’s definitely possible.

Crown: The cool thing is that you don’t have to make this at all if you don’t want to. The crown is for sale all over the place from different artisans. While expensive, my favorite that I came across was this one (pictured below) from Etsy seller SpaceInvader. This one from UniqueCosplayProps is a bit cheaper however! There are also many tutorials out there on how to make your own.

Jacket: Arguably much better if you took the time to sew for this cosplay, there is a way to pull this off without touching a sewing machine! You will need a cropped jacket hoodie like this one, fabric paint to paint on the detail of the pink stripe running through the middle and white trim. If you want to take the time to actually cut out the fringe on the jacket, I recommend using a fray block on the edges to keep strings and frays from happening.

Shirt: Instead of the jacket, you could definitely go with the rock shirt that Princess Bubblegum wears later on in the episode where this outfit is featured. You can actually purchase the shirt from a seller named WhoooBite on Etsy here! You will still need to wear something light pink with long sleeves underneath, however. Personally, since this is a slim fit shirt, I would order a size up than normal so it will fit correctly over all the other layers and still appear big.

Dress: You’ll need a pink swing dress like this one for her dress. The cool thing is that this one I’m linking to has amazing reviews on Amazon, as well as some reviewers that have posted pictures of themselves wearing the dress for reference on length.

Capri Leggings: I found these leggings that have reviews saying that they run super short, which works here for us for the reason that you want some space between your leggings and your pink boots, if possible. If for some reason the boots and the leggings don’t allow for a space on your legs, it should still work out just fine though.

Boots: These boots (top picture) look so adorable that I would wear them even when not cosplaying as Princess Bubblegum. Some reviews say that the shaft is slender, so you might want to check the sizing and order up a size if need be. An alternative that wouldn’t cost you as much would be these boots (bottom picture) though I’m not sure how I feel about the extra buckles. The color IS closer, however.

Makeup/Wig: I’m a huge fan of EpicCosplay wigs and found one already styled up into a ponytail here! You will also need a hair scrunchy like this one.

I’ll eventually be doing my own cosplay tutorial video after I do PB as a cosplay in the future, but in the meantime, I found this awesome tutorial video on Youtube:

And if you didn’t miscalculate, you should look just like PB herself!

5 Things I Love About Adventure Time

It’s super easy to see how mathematical Adventure Time is but it’s always impressive to me when a show can be both popular with children and adults.

Spoiler Alert!

1.) Plots: I think the writers of the show have done a great job melding plots that are interesting, such as a build-up to a climax at the end of the season like they are known for, while also keeping the episodes educational. Often times there is a little message inside of the episode that is sort of a life lesson. An example would be “It Came From the Nightosphere” where Marceline and her dad have family problems and Finn helps them to talk it out and resolve the issues so that they can reunite with each other while also having the action and adventure of Finn trying to stop Marceline’s dad before he could suck out the souls of all of Ooo.

2.) Foreshadowing: The show also uses quite a bit of foreshadowing. There’s a part in that same episode where the show foreshadows just how evil Gunter is by Marceline’s dad commenting on it. Later in season 6, it’s revealed that Gunter is really Orgalorg, who is attempting to conquer the solar system by absorbing the comet that comes once every 1,000 years. There are also a lot of episodes that continuously foreshadow a problem with Finn’s right arm, which finally leads up to him losing his right arm entirely in “Escape from the Citadel” only to have it regrow later in “Breezy”.

3.) Character Growth and Development: Character growth and development happen a lot in this series which I think is interesting for a cartoon. You can see this more clearly in Finn, who ages as the series progresses from age 12 to age 16. He learns a number of life lessons such as the importance of teamwork, friendship, telling the truth and he learns from his mistakes (sometimes). While some things are rehashed for episodes, Finn still overall learns and moves forward. For instance, though he’s angered by the fact that his biological Father abandons him and even seeks revenge on Martin after the episode “Escape from the Citadel”, his dad, for leaving him and causing Finn to lose his arm, eventually Finn admits that he knows his father won’t change and accepts it. That being said, the characters typically stay in character. For instance, Jake is often shown to be young at heart and unable to settle down for long periods of time. Despite the strain that puts between him and some of his children, they all know that it’s Jake’s personality.

4.) Humor: The big part about Adventure Time is obviously the humor. A lot of the humor can be pretty basic such as slapstick or potty humor which some people might not appreciate. However, the show also does a good job of pointy fun at different things about the world we live in, which can lead to smarter humor that might be overlooked by kids but will be noticed by adults. One of the more recent episodes I rewatched, “To Cut a Woman’s Hair” is a good example of this. When Finn finally gets enough of attempting to fetch Princess hair for a witch that’s threatening to kill Jake if he doesn’t retrieve it, he finally snaps and points out that hair won’t fix her because she’s ugly inside and out. The show is bluntly pointing out that if you are a cruel, evil person, than you can’t expect people to be fooled for long by good looks. Eventually they will figure out the truth. Another episode example would be “The Mystery Train” which has a dark twist at the end where it was simply luck that Finn and Jake didn’t die when the train went off the rails. This is more “dark humor” than anything as it points out that some things in life are just pure, dumb luck. The way it’s so nonchalantly passed off by Jake is what causes this scene to be funny though Finn’s surprised reaction is what leaves the darker undertone. The silly humor that only adults might get is also sprinkled in as well. For example, Finn calling for Tree Trunks to bring her hot buns inside only to be slapped by her husband in “The Pajama Wars” when he really was referring to the basket of hot buns she was holding in her trunk.

5.) Art Style: It sort of goes without saying that the art style for Adventure Time is unique in a lot of ways. It’s very simplistic in some ways but can get elaborate depending on the episode. It allows for more detail to be added in to make a larger impact like when Marceline transforms into a monster form. I have to admit that the art style actually took me a little bit to get used to, but after a very short time, it’s pleasant to look at and works for the type of cartoon it is.

No Sew Cosplay: Marshall Lee from Adventure Time

There’s not a huge amount of difference in the lot of the steps here if you want to cosplay as Marshall Lee instead of Marceline. The main difference is that you’ll be a bad boy!

Vampire Ears: These pointed elf ears should do a good job to replicate Marshall Lee’s own pointy vampire ears. You will need spirit gum and  possibly also remover for this. There is a combo pack you can get with both for a reasonable price. I’ve used this one before and like it!

Vampire Teeth: Once again, I’d get these guys for your vampire teeth as they have some pretty good reviews and you can drink while wearing them. Though I found out through the video I posted from youtube below under the makeup section that you could also get fake nails and trim them down to the size of your mouth and apply those instead.

Jacket: Most of the cosplayers that I see that have done a good job with this cosplay have used a plaid red jacket like this one for their cosplay. I saw a few that attempted to simply paint black or greenish black lines down the jacket to look closer to the actual jacket that Marshall has on, but I think that plaid look more realistic and better rather than trying to get it exact in this situation.

Jeans: Some regular straight fit jeans like these ones here should work perfectly find for the cosplay. Definitely make sure to roll up the ends of the jeans though. I thought it was also ironic that there are Lee’s jeans since he is Marshall Lee. Hah!

Shoes: You will definitely need converse shoes to pull of Marshall’s look. My suggestion are to get the Converse All Star as they have the white circle like the ones Marshall is wearing. I liked the ones pictured below because they are also slightly faded red which is closer to what Marshall has.

Makeup/Wig: Though this wig doesn’t have reviews yet, I like that it could be easily spiked and is also reasonable price wise. This wig here though looks like it has more layers and could give you a more “bad boy” style if you spike it up even more. I also found this awesome video on how to do Marshall Lee’s makeup.

Guitar: While I did find Marshall Lee’s guitar for sale here on Etsy, and it looks freakin’ fantastic, if you have the time to spare you could save a lot of money by making your own by using tutorials like I found. This one might not play at the end but it still looks fantastic. If you are really crafty then you could even get a real guitar and modify it like this awesome person did here:

Now you can be evil without even trying!
