Nerdy Items: These rock!? Literally.

I’ve wanted to do a little special article post on some interesting things I’ve stumbled upon just searching for products on Amazon, Ebay and Etsy. I have seen a lot of cool things! But I actually have a friend of mine that has opened up an Etsy page called KillaROXZ. This page has rocks that are inspired by popular culture too, which just makes my inner nerd love this idea so much more.

Just look at this freakin fantastic Chibi/Minimalist Pikachu rock!? I can’t get over how cute it is. Electrifying!

And, oh my glob, check out these mathematical Adventure Time rocks!

And I think that all of my inner emotions can agree that the Inside Out rocks including Bing Bong are just SO ADORABLE!

Check out more of her awesome rocks here on her product page!

No Sew Cosplay: Finn from Adventure Time

What time is it? Adventure Time!

Hat & Backpack: It’s actually pretty darn easy to find a perfect replica of Finn’s hat. Here is one such example that I found but it’s possible to find a Finn hat nearly everywhere. There is even a hat and backpack combo that I found on Etsy here! I personally prefer this backpack however, which is below. Either way, I would stuff the backpack full to the brim with all sorts of stuff you might need for the convention so that it looks full like Finn’s. Might as well be practical about your cosplay, right?

Shirt: The shirt is another fairly easy find. A simple lighter blue t-shirt is all you should need. I recommend getting it sized to fit perfectly. You shouldn’t look like you are swimming in the material. Since Finn’s body structure is more like a rectangle, it’s going to be difficult to capture that same look. Instead, go for a more human looking version of him and you should be fine. All the cosplayers I’ve seen that tried to look boxy actually ended up looking bizarre while the more humanized versions were easily recognizable.

Shorts: Some royal blue jersey shorts should be perfect for Finn. I saw a lot of cosplayers while searching for previous ways that this was done that attempted to use jeans instead. In my opinion, the cosplayers that used blue jersey shorts or the like instead of jeans looked more like Finn. It’s also easier to see that Finn is probably not wearing jean shorts when compared to Marceline when she clearly wears jeans at points that have pockets and slight details added in the drawing style.

Socks: All you will need for Finn are some long white socks which I recommend rolling down as many times as possible to give it that perfect look.

Shoes: The interpretations of Finn’s shoes that I saw that seemed to work the best for this cosplay were the ones that did the outfit with simple black tennis shoes though I thought that these were pretty cool because they are one solid “shoe” though they are really beach socks. However, here is a pair of unisex black shoes that should work for everyone.

Sword: If you aren’t able to forge your own awesome Finn sword like Man At Arms did…

… there are other videos out there that will show you how to make a duplicate Finn sword that could actually be taken into a convention hall.

And now you look mathematical!!!

No Sew Cosplay: Marceline from Adventure Time

Vampire Teeth: I mentioned this before in my Mavis from Hotel Transylvania blog, but I am not a huge fan of putting things in my mouth for long periods of time, particularly anything that has plastic. That’s why I recommend using costume vampire teeth like these that are just the canines. What I like about these is that the reviews are mostly overwhelmingly positive and customers have said that you can easily drink while still wearing them (though you should probably remove them before eating).

Pointy Ears: To get the pointed ears like Marceline has, which is difficult to see in most of the images of her, but she does have them, you will need pointed ears like these as well as spirit gum in order to hold them in place for the duration of wearing them. I recommend a combination spirit gum and remover pack like this one which is only a bit more than the spirit gum by itself.

Shirt: It’s surprisingly difficult to find a long-sleeve shirt with red and black large stripes! I finally located a few different sizes on Ebay including a size large here. I also found a men’s version here but be sure to order a size smaller but I didn’t really like how bright red this shirt was. Another alternative is this mini-dress (below) which I felt was the best choice.

Jeans: You don’t need to go out of your way to find a pair of jeans but if you don’t have one that is the right color, then a pair like these should be perfect. I recommend using a pair that you don’t wear as often anymore, as you will need to cut the bottom portion to just below your knees and then fray it. You can use sandpaper or other things to get the ripped jeans look or follow any of these steps here on how to rip your own jeans.

Flip-Flops: All you will really need are some darker blue flipflops like these to get the right look. After all, you should look almost like you just rolled out of bed and grabbed a pair of flips.

Makeup/Wig: You will obviously probably need a long dark wig like this one if you don’t already have the length or color for Marceline’s hair. You will also need a hair tie of some sort for this particular look. I usually forget to mention this but there are plenty of ways you can make your own wig cap as well to save some money just by getting a pair of pantyhose. This awesome DeviantArtist shows how to do it step-by-step!

This awesome video I found on Youtube shows how to get the look of Marceline using make-up! Don’t forget your neck, arms and legs, of course, and to make sure to put the bite marks on your neck.

Daddy, why did you eat my fries?
