Big Hero 6 Cosplay: Honey Lemon

Video Series Idea: Cosplay Comments and Questions?

Hey Guys! So I had this idea but I need your help to make it a reality. Basically, I’m hoping to do a video series where I cosplay as different characters (the cosplays I have done so far) and answer comments and questions all while in character for the duration of the video. It would be fun and also give me a chance to interact with followers on my blog and other social media.

I need comments and questions in order to make that a reality. So, all you guys have to do from the blog is message me on this posting for any of the following characters. Just make sure to let me know WHICH character it is for. I won’t be able to make a video until I get about 10 comments for a specific character though across all social media, so please share if you want your comment responded to! You can ask multiple characters, but all ten comments for one character can’t be from the same person for varieties sake.

The Characters/Cosplays:

Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo

Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6

Mavis from Hotel Transylvania

Ashley from Until Dawn

Joy from Inside Out

Fionna from Adventure Time

Papyrus from Undertale

Undyne from Undertale

Marinette from Miraculous LadyBug

LadyBug from Miraculous LadyBug

(Note: If you tweet me these use these hashtags and mention me too if possible… #CallShaggy, #CallHoney, #CallMavis, #CallAshleyUntilDawn, #CallJoy, #CallFionna, #CallPapyrus, #CallUndyne, #CallMarinette, #CallLadyBug)

Yeah, so that’s pretty much it! Hope you guys like the idea and PLEASE share if you want your comment read. =)

No Sew Cosplay: Tadashi from Big Hero 6

What Big Hero 6 Cosplay group would be complete without Tadashi! Well… Tadashi is here!

Hat: A lot of Tadashi’s hats exist online, so finding one should not be that hard! I usually like to support smaller businesses if possible and there is an Etsy store here that actually claims to make them by hand and made-to-order in your size. Be careful and make sure to purchase the correct one, as there are two versions: the movie and the book.

Shirt: Like the other shirts in this series that are hard to replicate, there is the same artisan on Etsy, Frayel, who has made a t-shirt for Tadashi Hamada here! The shirts that this person has are all good quality. For this shirt, I recommend getting the normal size that you wear but it doesn’t particularly matter, as the shirt will be partially covered up by your cardigan regardless~!

Cardigan: While any grey men’s cardigan will really do, I really liked the look of this one I found on Amazon. It gives you plenty of room to see the undershirt from the looks of it, plus the buttons are on the darker side. It’s a bit lighter than Tadashi’s cardigan but I think the style makes up for it and still keeps it recognizable. They have a Dark Kingfisher (right) one as well that you could get instead, but I feel the Flannel Grey works better. If you aren’t sure about it, turn yourself upside down and try to give yourself a different perspective! Shake it up a bit! Remember to roll up the sleeves just a tad.

Pants: While any brown pair of straight pants will do, Tadashi wears them very slim. I recommend getting a pair that are Slim Fit so that they look right and then rolling up the bottoms just one time so that they have a cuff. These pants right here will do~ I prefer the dark brown ones though regular brown could work as well.

Shoes: Now just add a pair of teal converse shoes and you should look pretty stylish!

And if you’ve done it all right, make sure to let your Hiro know that you’ve got their back and let them know when their fly is down a little earlier than before you are already on stage for that cosplay contest.

No Sew Cosplay: Wasabi from Big Hero 6

This cosplay is probably the most difficult one of the Big Hero 6 gang in a few ways and left me scratching my head at first when I went to search for items for this cosplay. Fortunately, after a little bit of tricky word play and keyword changes, I was able to find some pieces that I think match this perfectly. Not so fortunately, there is some modifications that are required but only for the sweater piece. Phew!

Headband: After playing around in the search engine on Amazon for what felt like forever and a day or two, I managed to actually find a headband that matches very closely to the on that Wasabi wears! This headband is about as good as it gets in my opinion. From the looks of it, you might need to fold the sides in to get the right look but otherwise it’s pretty perfect.

Undershirt: Like every guy in Big Hero 6… It’s a requirement to have a white undershirt. If you are ripped like Wasabi, however, you might want to go with this t-shirt made for beefy guys.

Sweater: Probably the hardest part of this entire cosplay is the sweater. I searched and searched and searched and still came up with no real close matches in terms of the design on the sweater. Fortunately, that doesn’t rule this out completely as a no sew cosplay as I was still able to find a sweater that was the right color here. It would only take some carefully placed tape to keep you from straying out of line and some fabric paint in order to bring the pattern to life. Depending on how bright the green is, you can also fade the clothing by running it through the wash a few times with some towels.

Pants: While Wasabi’s pants look at first to be ordinary jeans, they actually aren’t. If you look closely you can see that the pants have elastic on the bottom but still  have the look and feel of a pair of black jeans with a slightly faded look. After some careful searching I managed to come up with these jogger pants! There is also another option here though these are missing a little bit of the destressed look that I like about the first pair (pictured below).

Shoes/Jaki-Tabi: I had never heard of Jaki-Tabi tennis shoes until I went to go search for them. I understood that the style existed in Japan, of course, but I still had no clue that they made them in a modern style. Well, say hello to these Marugo Sports Jaki-Tabi shoes! They are pretty wild! I just realized that Wasabi has taught me something new!

And if you did everything correctly and you look the part of Wasabi, you might want to make sure you don’t spill wasabi on your shirt… That happened only one time and now you are branded forever!

No Sew Cosplay: Fred from Big Hero 6

What Big Hero 6 cosplay group would be complete without a Fred in the group? Fred’s outfit is deceivingly simplistic, but is actually made out of a number of pieces that are pretty hard to replicate from store-bought including his beanie, necklace and shirt though sewing is definitely still not a requirement for bringing this cosplay to life.

Beanie: Fortunately someone on Etsy named BlueRainbowDesigns has made it pretty easy to find a Fred beanie and I located it here. My main concern is that crochet isn’t as realistic to the beanie as it could be, however. So while this beanie is awesome, it might be better to purchase one like this beanie here  and then either add cut out pieces of felt with fabric glue or simply paint on the monster’s face very carefully. The beanie realistically could be either a light green or a teal color.

Necklace: The same person on Etsy absolutely nailed the necklace though and I highly recommend purchasing this one from BlueRainbowDesigns. If you are crafty enough, you could obviously also make your own. My suggestion would be to use something like a strange shaped rock and paint it or perhaps just some crafting clay.

Top Shirt: The same seller on Etsy that made Hiro Hamada’s shirt, Frayel, has made an awesome Fred shirt as well. Check it out here! What more could you ask for? I would recommend getting it in the normal size that you wear and not any bigger so that you appear to be taller. Remember, Fred is pretty darn tall compared to the others. My only concern is that the shirt is very bright red. Solve this by either running it through the wash with towels or rags to make it look beat up or leave it in the sun and flip sides. This should give it that look like it has been worn over and over again (probably inside out even).

Undershirt: Pretty self-explanatory but I’ve linked a white long sleeved shirt in case you don’t already have one!

Cargo Shorts: The pants should be pretty tight at the waist and a bit baggy at the bottoms. I found these relaxed fit cargo pants that should work pretty well though I also liked this look here for the shorts!

Underwear: Make sure to wear these bad boys forwards, backwards, inside out and forwards and backwards again for realism!

Shoe Laces: These shoe laces should work pretty good for our purposes for this cosplay! For an added touch I would suggest looping them in a way that uses most of the string and leaving them untied if possible. Make sure that they aren’t dangling though or you could trip in a convention hall!

Sneakers: While any ol’ pair of white sneakers will do if you don’t have any you could pick up a pair like these ones to complete your look! My suggestion is to wear them frequently before the con not only to break them in, but to give them a worn look. Remember that Fred is hard on his clothes and it really should look like he rolled out of bed with them still on a few… times.

Finally, if you’ve done everything right and you have your cosplay at the ready, it’s time to go to the convention and sit in a chair eating an invisible sandwich.

No Sew Cosplay: GoGo from Big Hero 6

This outfit is pretty easy like Hiro Hamada but it has more pieces that you will need in order to pull off GoGo, not to mention that the hair is very important to get right.

Leather Jacket: There is a way to do this outfit without breaking the bank. If you take a look at this awesome jacket here which is also the proper length, it’s actually also in the $20 range which is really extremely reasonable for a jacket!

T-Shirt: A simple white t-shirt is all you really need for GoGo! My only suggestion is to get a size that gives you extra length so that it looks like your jacket is a big shorter. GoGo’s is a ridiculously small leather jacket, so emphasizing the fact that yours is cut off is easy to do by going with a longer shirt. Or if you already happen to have a white t-shirt, just use that! No sense in buying more than you need. Keep in mind that this can also easily be used in other outfits.

Gloves: These gloves are actually a very reasonable price at $6! I was fortunate enough that I was also able to find a pair at the Flea Market for my friend who cosplayed as GoGo when we went to the convention.

Sweatband: This is probably the hardest part of the entire outfit. Which you would think would be the easiest thing to find? Nope. No. Definitely not. In my search I was able to find a purple and white striped sweatband for your wrist. Unfortunately it looked more like this without a white stripe in the center and two smaller white stripes on the edges. I’m not sure if the name is a reference to Big Hero 6 but they are actually called GOGO Sweatbands! The problem is that this is a set so you will end up with two wrist bands and a headband but… They’re super cheap! My suggestion is actually to purchase a plain purple sweatband and then paint the center with some white paint to pull off the correct look. I did find an exact one on this site but I have never purchased things from them before.

Shorts: Sports shorts are pretty easy to find and I managed to find ones with two red lines on the sides which make them absolutely perfect. Click here! Keep in mind you can also use these for actual sports… You know, when you go exercising after the convention. Either that or you’ll just be super comfy all day!

Leggings: This is a two fold process! You essentially need two pairs of leggings if you want to do this without sewing in pieces so I recommend getting two of the same type. Fortunately I found leggings here that come in the two different colors we need: purple and black. Cut some holes into the black ones and wear the purple ones underneath, obviously!

Running Shoes: There are a number of shoes that are close to what GoGo has going but by far these (top) are the closest that I was able to find. These ones (bottom) however, were a close second so it really depends on your personal taste. The first are closer to the style of running shoes GoGo wears.

Makeup/Wig: It’s important to make sure that you thicken your brows a bit if you don’t already have prominent brows. Use a lot of purple eyeshadow on your lids and eyeliner all around your eyes to make them seem smaller if you don’t already have small eyes or emphasize them. Light pink lipstick is a plus here. If you don’t have the right hair or don’t want to dye the strands, I recommend either purchasing a regular black wig from Epic Cosplay and dying strands or adding in strands of purple with a clip or playing it safe and purchasing a GoGo wig from Ebay like this one.

And if you did it all right, then woman up and get out to that convention!

No Sew Cosplay: Hiro from Big Hero 6

Arguably probably one of the easiest outfits you could do while also being the most challenging to find is Hiro Hamada from Big Hero 6. If you are wanting to cosplay as him, your budget will probably love you but if you are trying to find specific pieces in the store, you could spend hours wandering around and not finding that blue zip-up hoodie you swore you saw in the store last week.

Hoodie: Fortunately this is a very very easy thing to find online. While I did find a hoodie that more closely matched the look Hiro has with the de-stressed fabric, it unfortunately had a rather large yellow logo. Life is Good unless you slap that logo right on the chest area guys!?  WHY! I did, however, find this gem here that is pretty accurate in terms of color.

Shirt: Now, a plain red t-shirt is one thing, but one with that robot design on it is going to be impossible to find unless you purchase it from someone who specifically makes it, or do it yourself. This fantastic person on Etsy has already done the work for you and is also not charging an arm an a leg for the shirt at all! Wow! They’ve even got a Fred version here! Plus side is that, like the hoodie, it is an item you can rewear by itself. I recommend getting this shirt in a size bigger than you normally would to give you that short kid vibe. You get extra points if you wear a long sleeved white t-shirt underneath but as long as you don’t remove the hoodie, this is not a requirement at all.

Shorts/Pants: There are a few ways you can go about doing the pants. You definitely need to keep the length so that it makes you appear shorter. If you aren’t that tall you could probably easily get away with normal shorts, however, like the ones here. If you are tall then the best thing would be to stick with the length like these cargo shorts.

Shoe Laces: Pretty self-explanatory for these but since they can be hard to find in a store here you go!

Shoes: These again are pretty darn easy as converse shoes are still pretty popular. If you are looking for a pair though you can also purchase them online here! They are unisex and available in many different sizes. Now strap in your yellow shoe laces and you are good to go!

Makeup/Wig: Now if you are a girl playing this part, most likely you don’t have super thick eyebrows. Best thing to do is to use a black eyebrow pencil and thicken your brows up then use either liquid eyeliner and make small strokes on top to make them look like hair or to highlight your existing hairs on your brow with mascara. Keep your skin tone even and look up tutorials on how to make your lips look less full by putting some foundation on the edges and you are good to go! Don’t forget to style your hair like Hiro has it or get a wig and style that.

And if you did everything right and you look like Hiro Hamada, you are now ready to kick butt and take names hero style!

No Sew Cosplay: Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6

With anime conventions often around the corner and you being pressed for time because… Well, you have a job and responsibilities and what not, sometimes it’s very hard to find the time to actually sit down a sew a cosplay outfit. Or maybe you are not skilled on a sewing machine and have no one that’s willing to lend you a hand? Welp, it’s not as hard as you might think to find a Cosplay outfit that requires absolutely no sewing skills to pull off! But you can’t just willy nilly purchase clothes with the same color or the same look, they have to be both and you have to still pay attention to details in order to pull of the right look! Today I’ll show you an easy way to pull of Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 using only clothing items purchased from Amazon and Ebay!

The most important thing when shopping for a cosplay online, is to try to pay attention to color as much as possible and to make sure that you are purchasing the right size for you which can be difficult when you can’t see it in person or try it on. Trying different keywords in search engines can also give you different results so if you don’t end up with the right headband the first time, keep trying different things until you come across the right color and look. You can often narrow your searches down by using the color in the search on Amazon.

Headband/wrap: I was able to find a wrap with a twist in it that closely resembled the twist in Honey Lemon’s headwrap here!

Glasses: The glasses were easy to find as there are lots of cheap sunglasses with clear lenses you can purchase with wild color choices like these.

Dress: The dress was a bit more complicated as she is wearing a dress with a Peter Pan collar that’s white. I had to switch to Ebay to find a dress that matched for my cosplay. Though this is a different seller this is a close result. Whenever purchasing from China be aware that sizes might run smaller. EDIT: Listing has ended but this is an alternative.

Tights/Stockings/Leggings: It’s really up to you which you would prefer to wear but keep in mind that Honey Lemon’s leggings are slightly see-through. It’s best to find something that has a pattern to it to keep with the look that she has. The closest I found were these here.

Socks: Wow, orangeish socks are probably the hardest things to find. You don’t want to go so orange that the socks stand out, but you also can tell that her socks are not exactly yellow and are definitely an orange-hue. The best solution that I found was purchasing these socks and then turning them inside out so that the lighter color was visible!

Shoes: Now, while you might want to try to get as close as possible to the original shoes, it’s clear that Honey Lemon is wearing some heels that are very thin and very tall. As I am a tall person (5’8.5″) and was going to be walking around a convention hall that is huge, I opted to not go with the insanely tall heel and went practical while still keeping with the general look which resulted in these shoes.

Cardigan/Lab Coat: There are several different choices you can make here. Honey Lemon’s coat is heavy and that means that you will be sweating a lot if you go to wear it during the summer or if you are in a hot, sweaty convention hall. You could opt to keep as recognizable as possible and try a cardigan like this one here. Or if you want to keep it simple, use a lab coat instead like this one.

Makeup/Hair: The makeup is relatively simple for this one! In fact, the most important thing is simply to get a good pink lipstick and to make sure that you use black eyeliner around your eyes and definitely add mascara to your lashes. Eye shadow should keep in the lighter to darker brown region. If you don’t already have the hair for the cosplay or don’t already have an appropriate wig, I recommend purchasing one from Epic Cosplay. If you don’t have a wig cap, use a guide from online on how to make one from pantyhose!
