Cosplay Tutorial: Sam Manson from Danny Phantom

Danny Phantom 10 Years Later?

If you guys haven’t already heard the news, Butch Hartman recently released a video on his Youtube Channel where he draws what he would imagine Danny Phantom, Sam and Tucker to look like ten years later after the original series. You can watch the video here:

Tucker Foley is given an updated look, including his hat. He’s gotten updated tech and could even be running for President. Even if he’s not going to be running the country, Tucker is still a modern day Steve Jobs.

Sam Manson’s gothic look is changed to be more hipster, which is more in nowadays. She also has had experience fighting ghosts along side of Danny and is now his sidekick, sporting amazing ghost hunting gear.

Danny Phantom has been fighting ghosts for ten years now and is in great shape. Not only that, but his look has a more Captain America-vibe to it. His original suit has been updated, including incorporating the Fenton Thermos into his suit, giving him extra power as ghosts are captured.

Not only does Butch hint in the video that we might see this “actually animated someday,” but he did a follow up video where he was interviewed by KMACK, in which he says that in the “current version of the show” we don’t know if Vlad has a sister, hinting at plans to make more episodes. He’s also said that the show is in “hibernation” not cancelled until it wakes up again. This gives hope that Nickelodeon could bring the show back, as its creator at least has ideas and plans for the future.

If you’d like to see the show back, definitely tweet to Nick and let them know! Every voice helps and it would be cool to see this show GO GHOST again!

No Sew Cosplay: Jazz from Danny Phantom

Danny, I’m just trying to help. C’mon, we used to talk all the time.

Headband: Typically it’s difficult to tell if a character from a cartoon is wearing a plastic or elastic/stretchy headband. This isn’t the case with Jazz, as she uses her headband to tie a note to an object in the episode The Ultimate Enemy. Your headband should be a teal to aquamarine color such as this one which fits up to adults.

Shirt: Jazz is wearing a black long sleeve shirt with a v-neck. Typically these are super easy to find but just in case you are having trouble, this one should do nicely.

Pants: I’m not sure if you really need to go aquamarine or teal as much with the pants. In fact, I think you can get away with being a bit more natural looking. A pair of jeans that are close though will help cement the cosplay more. A pair such as these (left top picture) or these (right top picture) to me look more natural than a pair like these (bottom picture) anyhow.

Shoes: Black ballerina flats seem to be a staple for cartoon characters, and Jazz is no exception (Mabel from Gravity Falls owns a pair). I actually own a pair of these ones in yellow that I purchased for my Joy cosplay, and they are very nice shoes.

No Sew Cosplay: Danny Fenton from Danny Phantom

Your best bet if you are cosplay Danny Fenton would be to get a group together and have a Sam and/or Tucker. The more in your group the more recognizable you’re sure to be as Fenton versus Phantom. Plus…

I think we got this teamwork thing down.

Shirt: There are different ways to do this shirt for Danny Fenton. The first way would be to buy an already completed shirt like this one here (top picture). You could just as easily get a shirt like this (bottom picture) and paint the oval portion on with fabric paint.

Pants: I’ve seen cosplayers attempt this one with regular blue slack pants. It honestly looks really awkward. Being a high schooler, Danny is most likely wearing a pair of jeans anyhow. If you have a pair already, that’s awesome! They should be regular fit jeans also, not skinny jeans with a stone wash look.

Shoes: Danny is wearing red converse shoes. You could either go with the Chuck Taylor style like these ones (top picture), or the Chuck Taylor All Star Hi like these (bottom picture). Either way, you can’t really go wrong!

I’ve always wanted to say that.

No Sew Cosplay: Tucker from Danny Phantom

Let me consult my PDA for this one…

Hat: Honestly, I never knew what type of hat Tucker was wearing and assumed it was a backwards baseball cap. After looking at it for a while though and doing some research, most people seem to believe it’s a beret, which makes more sense. I’ve seen some pictures after googling of cosplayers with his outfit as well, and the beret seems to look the best.

Glasses: You’re going to want some fake glasses for this one if you don’t already have a pair of nerdy black glasses and get shoved into a locker frequently. The ones you are looking for have a frame just like these ones.

Shirt: Tucker wears a light yellow shirt that has long sleeves which is actually pretty surprisingly easy to find. You’re probably going to want to make sure your shirt is tucked in (get it… Tucker? I’ll stop now) though, based on the style he has going.

Backpack: You’re going to want a backpack that is grey or greyish blue. I found one that is called Brigantine Blue here (pictured below) but you could also save some money and go with plain grey especially if this is a one time thing. I think the weird shape of Tucker’s bag is just the art style, versus actually being a specific type of backpack. This is a staple for Tucker and he rarely if ever doesn’t have his bag on. Besides you can stash all kinds of useful stuff in it for the convention. Like Fenton Thermoses…

Belt: You’re going to want to have a black belt with a silver metal clasp. Most of the time, the military style canvas belts like these ones will be cheaper than any leather or faux leather versions. Either should do the trick, really.

Pants: I have no clue how this could be done wrong, but a lot of cosplays I’ve seen of Tucker have the wrong pants entirely. While sometimes this doesn’t break a cosplay, it’s really noticeable when you compare the two… Your best bet is to definitely make sure you’re getting green cargo shorts for this. Preferably long ones such as these pair or even longer. You can’t really see Tucker’s legs after all. I’d still get shorts versus pants, however, as pants don’t flare the same way that Tucker’s do.

Shoes: Since you’re going with shorts, to make your legs look shorter then make sure to get longer boots for this cosplay. Tucker is wearing a pair of brown lace up boots like these.

Now you’re off to do some Ghost Hunting with Danny, right?!
